Final Fantasy XIV RPG Group Rented Real Billboard For Promotion

An up-and-coming Final Fantasy XIV RPG group decided that the best way to bring newcomers to their next summer MMO gaming party was to advertise, but the usual methods just wouldn’t cut it. Instead of shouting in the streets of Limsa Lominsa or wooing passers-by on the steps of Ul’dah, the Rain nightclub bought a few billboards in Texas and California, letting the Warriors of Light know where to go a times July 9 arrived.

A Twitter user associated with the group posted the billboards on Twitter (thanks News.com.au) and mentioned that renting was very inexpensive, although the poles have since been removed. Whether it’s concerns about copyright infringement or some backlash from the community on Rain’s Discord server is unclear, though it may be the latter.

Square Enix tends to be rather lenient with the enforcement of its Terms of Service in Final Fantasy XIV. Even most photo mode mods could technically be construed as violating the Terms of Service, but unless the actions harm other users or earn real money using Square Enix’s IP, there is often little risk of getting into trouble for bending the rules a bit in Eorzea.

What apparently landed Rain in hot water with fans was the rather selective billboard publicity. The Rain Club offers erotic role-playing services – not very uncommon in Final Fantasy XIV, especially on Rain’s home server, Balmung, informally called the game’s role-playing server. The site of the rain – offline at the time of publication, until the rowdiness subsides – and its full list of services offered.

Those who joined the club’s Discord without checking their website were apparently shocked to find NSFW channels on the server, before Rain’s modders removed them, angering newcomers and existing members alike in the process and prompting several hours of messages haranguing mods about their club.

Still, the show will apparently go on, with an in-game DJ and performances, plus an extensive – and admittedly pricey, so bring plenty of Gil – menu of Final Fantasy drinks and food.

This should give you a nice break from patch 6.18 and your island paradise, but if you need more than a few stiff drinks to change your worldview. this new mod that improves every monster texture should do the trick.
