Floyd Mayweather broke his silence after the death of his ex-wife Josie Harris who was found dead in his car by police in California on Tuesday night.

The boxer shared a stream of flashback photos of the pair together on his instagram feed with tributes calling him “my rock” “my friend” and “my angel and” my love.

Mayweather and Harris had a tumultuous relationship when they dated between 1995 and 2010. The boxing icon served two months in prison when he was convicted in 2010 of domestic violence against him.

Police do not consider her death suspicious after being found in a car outside her home in Valencia, Los Angeles County.

The 40-year-old was the mother of Mayweather’s three children and was currently in the midst of a $ 20 million lawsuit against the boxer after claiming he used domestic violence against her in 2010 because of she was on drugs.

Harris has been described as a “bright and loving soul” and a “great spirit” as fans rush to pay their respects.

The news was confirmed in a tweet from Lance Pugmire, a senior boxing writer for Athletic.

The LA County Sheriff’s Department confirms an active investigation into the death at the home of Josie Harris, the mother of three of Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s children, following a TMZ report that Harris, 40, was found dead in her car last night, around 10pm Pacific, ”he wrote.

“You can tell Josie Harris had such a bright and loving soul. May she rest in peace, ”commented Perez Hilton as the news spread Wednesday.

“Josie was an amazing woman who loved kind generous loyal strong funny and most of all an amazing human who treated my children like they were her own,” commented Instagram user dayinthelifeofcams, who shared a photo of Harris that she said she photographed herself.

“I will miss her beautiful soul. You were the light in the darkness Josie. ‘

She added that Harris was “more than Floyd’s ex, she was a beautiful soul who would be so upset to know that she is just called his ex.”

This sentiment was followed by writer Slate Jamilah Lemieux who asserted that Harris “always deserved more than we gave him”.

“I hope someone will take the time to write a fitting memory from the life of Josie Harris. Rude to see the media tripping over themselves to report the death of “Floyd Mayweather’s baby mum” and have nothing to offer other than a link to the TMZ post, “she added .

“Very sad news for Josie Harris. I interviewed her about 7 years ago – she had a great wit and a great personality. Condolences to Floyd and his kids,” said DJ Vlad.

Her death has been described as “terrible news” by Twitter user B-Dill and “extremely sad news” by YBF Chic.

Harris’ death was confirmed by Los Angeles Police on Wednesday.

“Homicide investigators responded to the death of a woman,” the statement said.

“The incident was reported on Tuesday March 10, 2020, around 10 p.m., in the 25,700 block of Oak Meadow Drive, Valencia.

“The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional information is available at this time. ‘

Harris claimed she was abused by Mayweather six times.

In an interview with United States today in 2014, Harris gave a sad reflection of his time with Mayweather.

“I was a battered woman,” Harris said.

“I felt embarrassed to say that I was a battered woman. I was ashamed. I felt like it was my fault. What did I do? I did not understand what a battered woman was at the time.

“Now I know I was in a very dysfunctional and hostile relationship and a victim of domestic violence.”

One of their children, their eldest son Koraun, witnessed the assault which saw Mayweather serving time and alerted authorities after sneaking out of his home.

He called his father a “coward” in the same interview his mother gave when talking about his time with the boxer.

“(My father) said to lock my door and stay in my room,” Koraun said of the incident.

“I went back to my room and locked the door, then I ran out of my bathroom, then I jumped over the door and made for the main entrance door. I just told (the guard) that my mother was injured and called the ambulance and the police.

Harris didn’t see Mayweather long after the prison sentence he served in 2010, but added: “For some reason I still feel anxious when I know he’s on his way (to recover their children).

“I don’t know why, but I’m really overwhelmed when I know I have to be with him.”

Mayweather, who is undefeated in his 50 fights during his boxing career, claimed in an interview in 2015 that his violence in 2010 was simply the fact that he was trying to restrain Harris because she was on drugs.

“Did I kick, stomp, and beat anyone?” No, that didn’t happen, ”he told Katie Couric.

“Did I hold back a woman who was on drugs?” Yes I did it. So if they say it’s domestic violence, then you know what? I am guilty. I am guilty of holding someone back.

Harris vigorously denied the charge and responded with a $ 20 million lawsuit that had yet to be concluded at the time of his death.

She was also writing a book about survivors of domestic violence when she died.
